Most aluminum storm windows found on old homes were installed long after the construction of the original home. Widely adopted starting in the 50s and often sold door-to-door, these windows were presented as offering remarkable energy savings and protective qualities. While those benefits may or may not be realized, one thing is certain: they are profoundly ugly. They obscure original woodwork, shrink the size of the window aperture, and cut light transmission.
